Today (12/09/13) Demos has released a report ‘Top of the Ladder‘ which has found older people feel restricted by a lack of suitable alternative housing or a fear of an unfamiliar environment.  The report calls for more retirement housing, particularly to cater for the specific needs of Britain’s fastest-increasing demographic bubble of over-85s.
Commenting on the report Sara McKee, Founder & Director of Evermore, says:
“The Demos report into housing options for older people is both timely and welcome. It puts a spotlight on the fact the current choices do not meet the needs of millions of older people. Our own research has found older people dread the thought of moving into residential care, and it is a decision made at crisis point for many.  Let’s enable older people and give them positive options.
But rather than more words,  it is time for action.  That is why we’re building Evermore – a completely new model in retirement living where the focus is on health and wellbeing, and helping older people retain choice and independence. Evermore will provide the solution for people in later life who can no longer cope with living alone and will tackle the isolation and malnutrition suffered by older people across the country.”
