Commenting on the release of Labour plans for a shake up of the NHS, Sara McKee, founder of older people’s lifestyle organisation Evermore, said:
“The call for greater self-management of long term conditions is all well and good, but it needs to be backed up with a commitment to ensure the right housing and support services are available to older people in the right places at the right time.
To make this a reality, Councils must encourage the building of the specialist housing older people want and need to retain their independence while enhancing their health and wellbeing.  Current options contribute to isolation, malnutrition and dehydration suffered by many, impacting the system but most importantly the lives of older people.”
